Sheikh Hamdan announces work from home policy for Dubai govt employees as schools reopen

Dubai - A policy to facilitate parents to supervise their children undertaking distance learning.

Female Dubai government employees with children who are e-learning can work from home, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, has announced.

He also issued directives that male employees who do not have anyone to oversee their children's distance learning be allowed to work from home. This will help government staff monitor their children as they e-learn when schools reopen from August 30.

As per Sheikh Hamdan's directives, female employees will be allowed to work from home provided their jobs can be done remotely and does not impact the operations of the government entity.

Mothers with children in Grade 9 and below are eligible to work from home. They are allowed to work from home only on the days the children are attending classes remotely.

'Today, we directed the implementation of a work from home Policy for Government of Dubai female employees with children undertaking distance learning. The new model starts next week to coincide with the new school year. Fathers working in the Government of Dubai who do not have carers to oversee their children's distance learning will also be allowed to work from home, enabling them to supervise their children during the school day.'

Abdullah Ali bin Zayed Al Falasi, Director-General of the Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR), said the directives reflect the government's approach of taking into consideration the social circumstances of employees. "It also reflects Sheikh Hamdan's keenness to ensure family stability and a happy and balanced life for Dubai government employees," he added.
