Sharjah Municipality has issued an advisory to clarify whether the novel coronavirus can be transmitted through food.
The authority tweeted answers to the most commonly asked questions regarding the matter in an attempt to ensure that residents had access to "reliable" information, and as part of their efforts to spread awareness against fake medical information being circulated.

Here are some of the most commonly asked questions:
Is it possible to contract the coronavirus through food?
There is currently no evidence of infection with coronavirus through food or its packages; it is a respiratory virus that is transmitted through direct contact with infected people.
Can the virus survive on food, vegetables and fruits?
The coronavirus cannot reproduce in food. It needs a live animal or human host to breed or survive.
How do I wash vegetables and fruits properly? Is it with water only or using anything else?
It is enough to wash fruits and vegetables properly with clean water. You can use a 10ml diluted vinegar solution.
How long does it take to cook food safely? And what temperature kills the virus?
Food must be cooked at a temperature not lower than 70°C. Make sure it is well-cooked before consumption.
Is the delivery of food or grocery products safe?
Yes, provided that the delivery worker adheres to all preventive procedures and good food practices. Make sure to wash your hands with soap and water after receiving orders.
