If the mother of a newborn baby born outside the UAE has a residency visa and an approved permit to return to the country, the baby can obtain an entry permit, the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICA) has clarified.

In an FAQ released by the authority, it stated that the ICA-issued entry permit is not valid for Dubai residents. Dubai residents can apply to issue entry permits through the link here. However, the holders of ICA entry permit can enter the country through any of the country's airports, it added.

For getting an entry permit, the applicant must enter the details of a family member inside the country. Return permits are available to all categories of residents, but priority is given to first-level relatives of residents who are inside the country, people of determination and professionals working in the healthcare sector, energy and communications sector, educational sector, business and economic activities sectors.

The authority said those with their visas expired after April 1 can also get an entry permit as the government had extended the validity of visas till December 2020. However, for those whose visas are cancelled by the sponsors when they were outside the country need to get a new visa to apply for an entry permit, the ICA clarified.

Residents who are stranded in any of the countries can obtain a permit but the entry will depend on the availability of flight services from that country.

To another question, the ICA replied that the validity period for the issued permits is 21 days from the date of approval and the entry permit is considered cancelled after 21 days. In such cases, the residents should submit application for another permit. Those who had their applications rejected by the ICA also should submit new applications.
