Inspired by the efforts of the UAE leadership, especially Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed.

He's on the frontline of the war on Covid-19 which calls for great sacrifice. A Dubai-born Indian doctor has deferred his Doctor of Medicine studies in orthopaedic surgery indefinitely to serve as a volunteer at the Al Warsan Hospitality and Healthcare Centre.

Dr Aditya G. Varma, a 25-year-old former student of The Millennium School - Dubai, has been treating Covid-19 patients at the Al Warsan facility since April 9. He decided to volunteer after learning of a shortage of medical professionals willing to work at the Al Warsan Centre.

Inspired by the efforts of the UAE leadership, especially Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council, Dr Varma said this is his way of expressing his gratitude to the UAE Rulers.

Speaking to Khaleej Times after a very busy day at the isolation facility, he said: "I would like to thank Sheikh Hamdan for all the work he has done."

He has done some tremendous grassroots work in Dubai. I want to show my appreciation for everything he has done."

"In collaboration with the Dubai Health Authority (DHA), I take care of in-patients with medical issues, including those with diabetes and hypertension. I monitor their statuses," said Dr Varma.

"Many patients suffer mild abdominal pain and chest pain, which could be serious. We examine them to check if they need more medical attention and need to be moved to a hospital. I was also part of the swabbing team, where we would take swabs of suspected Covid-19 patients."
