ICU nurse Kitty Markose literally struck gold, winning Dh50,000 worth of gold at the Dubai Shopping Festival jewellery campaign earlier this week. She called it ‘the best birthday present’ of her life as she learnt the news just a day after her birthday.
“This year didn’t start on a very good note for me as I contracted the virus early in January while serving as Covid ward nurse. But thankfully, by the grace of God, I recovered in a couple of weeks and since my birthday was approaching, my husband decided to uplift my mood and took me gold shopping,” Kitty recalled.
“My husband Rijo spent Dh3,200 and bought me a gold chain and bracelet and I was very happy about it. As we were about to leave the shop, we were handed six raffle tickets. I filled it up in a hurry and left but little did I know, those would prove so lucky for me,” she told Khaleej Times.
The couple said they couldn’t believe their ears, when two days later, they received a call saying they had won 250gm of gold in the draw for the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group’s (DGJG) ‘non-stop winning’ jewellery campaign.
“Since I have heard of many fraud cases, I wasn’t sure if the call I received was authentic, so I called the shop repeatedly until he confirmed twice that the news was correct. I came to Dubai just a year and a half back and the city has already given me so much happiness that I cant wait to spend the rest of my life here,” said Kitty, who works in the ICU ward of a hospital in Dubai from 7am to 7pm.
Asked what she would do with the prize, she quipped: “I am yet to decide what we will do with it but I am sure we will definitely share it with our families back home in India. Both my husband and I are here in Dubai because of the efforts of our parents; therefore, they deserve the best and all we achieve is because of their hard work.”
