Covid vaccine UAE: 37,460 doses administered in 24 hours

The UAE has administered 37,460 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours.

The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 6.32 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 63.95.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Monday revised its guidelines for fully inoculated people, noting they could meet in small groups with other vaccinated people without wearing masks, but should keep wearing them outside the home.

The CDC advised fully vaccinated people to continue with many precautions, such as avoiding medium- and large-sized in-person gatherings, wearing masks when visiting unvaccinated people from multiple households, or wearing masks when with people who are at risk for severe Covid-19.

Israel on Monday extended its Covid-19 vaccination campaign to Palestinians working in Israel or its West Bank settlements, after facing criticism for not providing more doses to Palestinians in occupied territory.

Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza have received few vaccine doses to date and lag far behind Israel, which has vaccinated over 40 per cent of its population in one of the world's fastest rollouts.

Meanwhile, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine on Monday has said that the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine was able to successfully neutralise a new variant of the coronavirus spreading rapidly in Brazil.

Scientists said the neutralising ability was roughly equivalent to the vaccine’s effect on a previous less contagious version of the virus from last year.
