The UAE has administered 24,189 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours.

The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 6.5 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 66.13.

Daily Covid-19 cases in the UAE have dipped below 2,000 for the first time in more than two months, as vaccination peaks.

In the past couple of weeks, the vaccination drive has been progressing steadily while prioritising the vulnerable categories. According to the stats from Our World in Data website, the UAE continues to be second best globally in terms of the cumulative doses administered per 100 people.

Meanwhile, some fully recovered Covid patients can take the vaccine "directly", a top health official in the UAE has clarified.

Dr Farida Al Hosani, spokesperson for the UAE’s government health sector, said that recovered patients can take the vaccine.

“If the infection was mild or without symptoms, individuals can take the vaccine directly. However, if the infection was moderate to serious, we recommend they conduct an antibody test to identify their immunity levels. If their immunity against the virus is insufficient, then they can take the vaccine”, she said.

Some countries have also announced that providing proof of vaccination against Covid-19 will exempt travellers from mandatory quarantine and/or screening requirements. These countries will drop quarantines and testing for passengers who have received their Covid vaccines.
