The UAE has been witnessing a steady decline in the number of Covid-19 infections in the past few weeks.

The UAE has administered 161,742 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine in the past 24 hours.

The country's Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) said the total doses administered now stands at 6.83 million. This takes the rate of doses per 100 people to 69.06.

The European Union’s drug regulator insisted on Tuesday that there is “no indication” the AstraZeneca vaccine causes blood clots as governments around the world faced the grimmest of dilemmas: push on with a vaccine known to save lives or suspend its use over reports of clotting in some recipients.

The European Medicines Agency has further urged governments not to halt use of the vaccine at a time when the pandemic is still taking thousands of lives each day.

Meanwhile, UAE authorities have administered the Covid-19 vaccine to over 50 per cent of the population.

Abdul Rahman Al Owais, Minister of Health and Prevention, said during a Press briefing on Tuesday that 52.46 per cent of the target group have been vaccinated.

The UAE has administered close to 7 million doses of the Covid vaccine at over 205 centres across the country.
