The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday reported 3,453 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 3,268 recoveries and 5 deaths.
The new cases were detected through additional 162,251 tests.
More than 23.4 million tests have been carried out across the country so far.
The total number of cases in UAE as on January 16 stand at 253,261 while total recoveries are 225,374. Death toll rises to 745.
On Saturday, the UAE Capital once again tightened the rules for entering the emirate. The move came as the number of Covid-19 cases in the country hit a record high last week.
Starting today, January 17, stringent measures followed until the last week of December will be restored in Abu Dhabi. However, these will not apply to those who have received both doses of the Covid-19 vaccine or to volunteers of the phase 3 clinical trials.

Meanwhile, in a first instance of its kind, a UAE-based Covid-19 patient suffering serious medical complications was successfully transferred to India for further treatment on January 14. The Indian businessman, who is in critical condition, was transported from Ajman Hospital to Aster MIMS Hospital in Kozhikode, Kerala, in an ISOVAC Isolation Pod.
New travel guidelines will be implemented for Filipino expats flying home from the UAE, starting today, January 17. Travellers will have to undergo a 14-day quarantine upon arrival, even if they test negative in the RT-PCR Covid-19 test, according to an advisory by the Philippine government.
However, the mission in Dubai on Sunday announced that it would be closed for two days, until tomorrow January 18, after it revealed a case of possible exposure to Covid-19.
