Coronavirus: UAE reports 3,434 Covid-19 cases, 2,171 recoveries, 15 deaths

Dubai - The new cases were detected through 185,599 additional tests.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 3,434 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,171 recoveries and 15 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 185,599 additional tests. The total number of cases in UAE as on February 27 are 388,594 while total recoveries stand at 379,708. The death toll rises to 1,213.


The UAE has conducted over 30.4 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19.

Dubai’s Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management on Friday announced that coronavirus precautionary measures introduced earlier this month will be extended until the start of Ramadan in mid-April. This means pubs and bars will remain closed, while restaurants and cafes will still have to shut by 1am. Malls, hotels, pools and private beaches will operate at 70 per cent for the extended period. The capacity of indoor seated venues, like cinemas and entertainment and sports venues, should be capped at 50 per cent.

In its latest update on Saturday morning, the Johns Hopkins University revealed that the total number of global Covid-19 cases has topped 113 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.51 million. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases at 28,486,118. India comes in second place in terms of cases at 11,063,491.

On Friday, India’s Ministry of Home Affairs extended the prevailing restrictions for surveillance, containment and caution against the spread of Covid-19 till the end of March. The restrictions were to have expired at midnight on February 28.

Meanwhile, the Indian state of Kerala on Friday announced free RT-PCR tests for travellers arriving from abroad — a decision that lifted the mood of the vast UAE expat population hailing from the southern state. Since February 22, PCR tests on arrival were made mandatory for all international passengers landing in India, including children. The latest announcement makes Kerala the only state to offer the tests free of charge.
