Coronavirus: UAE reports 2,613 Covid-19 cases, 1,587 recoveries, 12 deaths

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday reported 2,613 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,587 recoveries and 12 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 234,763 additional tests.


The total number of cases in UAE as on March 7 are 410,849 while total recoveries stand at 392,792. The death toll rises to 1,322.

The UAE has conducted over 32 million tests till date as part of the country's massive screening programmes to combat the spread of Covid-19. For the first time since January 12, the number of new Covid-19 cases dipped below 3,000 for an entire week baring Friday when it was 3,072. Also, the number of new cases has remained low since the middle of February when compared to January.

The UAE Capital is slowly but surely on a path to recovery. On Saturday, the local authorities announced the reopening of cinema halls, a month after its closure. Abu Dhabi’s robust safety measures against the pandemic leading to a drop in the number of new cases could be a major reason for cinemas to reopen.

In Saudi Arabia, authorities have shut down 10 mosques in five regions after 10 cases of Covid-19 were confirmed among worshippers. Such cases have led to 218 mosques being temporarily closed in the past 26 days. Of these, 196 have reopened after precautionary measures were completed.

Meanwhile, Mauritius has suspended all inbound international flights for a week after six local Covid-19 cases were reported. During this period, passengers will be able to embark on outbound travel from Mauritius but no passenger will be uplifted for inbound travel.
