Coronavirus: UAE reports 2,250 Covid-19 cases, 1,736 recoveries, 9 deaths

Dubai - Over 33.3 million tests have been conducted in the UAE to date to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Friday reported 2,250 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 1,736 recoveries and 9 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 239,525 additional tests.

Over 33.3 million tests have been conducted in the UAE to date to combat the spread of Covid-19.

The total number of cases in UAE as on March 12 are 422,246 while total recoveries stand at 401,539. The death toll rises to 1,378.

The Pfizer and BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine may provide early protection against the virus, as early as 12 days after the first dose, Pfizer’s cluster lead for the Gulf region, Lindsey Dietschi told Khaleej Times.

“Although partial protection from the vaccine appears to start 12 days after the first dose, two doses of the vaccine are required to provide the maximum protection — a vaccine efficacy of 95 per cent — observed in the Phase three trial,” she said.

Meanwhile, a sobering global study has recommended that surgeries be delayed for seven weeks after a patient tests positive for Covid-19 — as operations taking place up to six weeks after diagnosis are associated with increased risk of death.

Researchers discovered that patients are more than two-and-a-half times more likely to die after their operations, if the procedure takes places in the six weeks following a positive diagnosis for SARS-CoV-2.
