Coronavirus: UAE reports 2,172 Covid-19 cases, 2,348 recoveries, 6 deaths

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday reported 2,172 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,348 recoveries and 6 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 209,079 additional tests.

The total number of cases in UAE as on March 23 are 444,398, while total recoveries stand at 427,188. The death toll rises to 1,451.

Abu Dhabi has made it compulsory for those working in vital sectors and industries within the private sector to undergo PCR testing every two weeks, according to a statement from health authorities. Employees can take the tests for free. The requirement is part of efforts to curb the spread of Covid-19 and protect public health. Weekly PCR tests are already mandatory for unvaccinated government sector staff in the Capital. Sharjah and Ajman had earlier announced compulsory periodic Covid PCR tests for some workers.

It was also announced yesterday that the employees in five sectors across the UAE will need to take a Covid PCR test every 14 days. The five sectors include: Hotels, restaurants, transportation, and health, as well as social and personal service industries such as laundries, and beauty and hair salons. Those who are vaccinated against Covid are exempted. The new rule is effective from March 28.

In Sharjah, women's prayer halls at large mosques will be used to accommodate men for the Friday prayers, it was announced on Monday. Though mosques have reopened, women's prayer halls remain closed. The new decision is effective from Friday, March 26
