Coronavirus: UAE reports 2,128 Covid-19 cases, 2,243 recoveries, 4 deaths

The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday reported 2,128 cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 2,243 recoveries and 4 deaths.

The new cases were detected through 230,734 additional tests. More than 36.9 million Covid-19 tests have been carried out in the UAE so far.

The total number of cases in UAE as on March 28 are 455,197, while total recoveries stand at 438,706. The death toll rises to 1,481.

However, the ministry has urged the public to cooperate and stick to the Covid-19 precautionary measures outlined by the government. The Sharjah Police have launched a new campaign to raise awareness about Covid-19 among the residents through their patrols. The police also use drones to enforce Covid safety measures. Awareness messages are broadcast over loudspeakers mounted on drones and police patrols.

Muslims around the world will mark the second socially distanced holy month of Ramadan amid Covid-19 this year. With the holy month set to be begin in weeks, authorities across the UAE have issued Covid rules so that residents stay safe from the coronavirus. The overall number of global Covid-19 cases has surpassed 126.6 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.77 million. The US is the worst-hit country with the world's highest number of cases and deaths. Brazil follows in the second place with 12,490,362 cases and 310,550 fatalities.

Authorities in India’s western state of Maharashtra imposed night curfews on Sunday to tackle a record surge in Covid-19 cases with the financial capital Mumbai reporting 6,123 new cases, the highest single-day spike since March last year. India recorded 62,714 cases of the coronavirus in the last 24 hours, the country’s health ministry said on Sunday, the highest single-day tally since mid-October last year.
