The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Sunday announced that 2,443 patients were cured of the infection in the last 24 hours and no fatalities were reported. A total of 87,000 people were also screened for the virus in the country within the same period, following which 513 new cases were identified.
Currently, there are 7,501 active coronavirus cases in the country, that has seen a total of 73,984 cases since the outbreak was first announced.
A significant increase in the number of recoveries is a positive sign for the country when the global cases have soared to over 27 million, with over 884,000 deaths and over 19 million recoveries as of September 6, 6.25pm UAE time. The US, Brazil, India and Mexico have been among the countries with the highest number of daily cases.
Nearly 90 per cent of Covid-19 patients recover in the UAE, which is higher than the global average recovery rate of 58.17 per cent.
The country also has one of the highest rates of per million Covid tests in the world. More than 7.5 million Covid tests have been carried out in the country so far.
The country's Covid-19 mortality rate of 0.6 per cent is considerably lower than the global average of 3.7 per cent, the ministry said.
Health experts said mass screenings at high-density areas have helped in curbing the spread of the virus though a recent spike in cases is a matter of concern. The health authorities have urged people not to let their guards down and avoid a second wave of infection after daily reported cases surged to over 700 in the past few days.
The Minister of Health and Community Protection, Abdul Rahman Al Owais, said the country has taken great strides in finding solutions to defeat the virus. The country has recently launched Dubai's first independent biomedical research centre - Mohammed Bin Rashid Medical Research Institute - that will focus on researching on communicable diseases in the UAE, in addition to Covid-19. The UAE has also established mass screening centres across the country.
The country is also in the third phase of its vaccine trials. The health minister said the results are very "reassuring, and no side-effects were recorded on the volunteers".
The trials are being managed by Abu-Dhabi based G42 Healthcare in partnership with the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi, the UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHaP) and Abu Dhabi Health Services Company.
