Taking a Covid-19 coronavirus test does not break one's fast during the holy month of Ramadan, the UAE Fatwa Council has said.

Covid-19 tests involve a nasal swab.

Arabic daily Al Ittihad quoted the Fatwa council as saying that Muslims shouldn't refrain from taking the coronavirus test fearing it would break their fast.

As Khaleej Times reported, the council earlier issued a series of guidelines for Muslims fasting amid the pandemic.

Those who have symptoms of Covid-19 may choose not to fast during the holy month, the council had said.

Residents can call the council on 8002422 for any queries pertaining to Ramadan.
