UAE reports 1,315 Covid-19 cases, 1,452 recoveries, 2 deaths
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Tuesday reported 1,315 Covid-19 coronavirus cases, its highest daily tally so far, along with 1,452 recoveries. Two deaths were also reported. Nearly 97,000 new Covid-19 tests have been carried out, taking the total to over 11 million tests so far. The previous high of daily Covid-19 cases was reported on October 3, at 1,231 cases, while the third highest tally was announced on October 2 at 1,181. Daily reported cases breached the 1,000 mark for the first time on September 12. In a major announcement yesterday, it was revealed that trials for the Russian adenovirus-based vaccine are set to commence in the UAE.  
UAE's clear strategy to combat Covid-19 is a global model: NCEMA Director-General
The Director-General of the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Management Authority, NCEMA, Obaid Rashid Al Shamsi, has said that the UAE is a leading model for the world in the way it responded to the Covid-19 pandemic, thanks to the government's foresight and proactive approach in managing the coronavirus crisis. In a speech on the occasion of International Day for Disaster Reduction, observed on October 13, Al Shamsi said that while the pandemic ravaged many countries around the world, the UAE has demonstrated how having a clear strategy and handling this imminent danger with professionalism, has allowed it to contain its repercussions. "On International Day for Disaster Reduction, we are proud to be among the ranks of developed nations in our response to crises," he said. 
UAE registers 100,000 Covid-19 recoveries
The UAE has crossed the 100,000-milestone in total number of recovered cases in the country while marking a 15 per cent increase in recovery rate in just one week, health authorities announced on Tuesday. The country also reported the highest number of Covid-19 infections on a single day with two deaths. Health authorities declared 1,315 new Coronavirus cases on Tuesday out of the 96,989 new tests conducted. The virus also claimed two lives, bringing total deaths to 448. Dr Omar Al Hammad, spokesperson of the UAE Ggovernment, said the UAE has achieved a 15 per cent increase in recoveries and a 46 per cent decrease in mortality compared to last week. 
UAE frontliners to get travel discounts, financial support under new initiatives

Frontline professionals and volunteers in the UAE can expect a host of special initiatives in the coming weeks - from travel promos to housing-related financial support. Partnering with the Frontline Heroes Office, Aldar Properties, Etihad Aviation Group and Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism are set to launch initiatives in recognition of frontliners' efforts in the UAE's fight against Covid-19. Over the coming weeks, these entities will roll out recognition activities and celebrations for frontliners and their families. New programmes will provide them with discounts on travel and access to select Abu Dhabi cultural, entertainment and hospitality facilities, as well as special housing-related financial support at Aldar Properties' developments. 
Cyber patrols stepped up as criminals target gullible UAE residents online

Cyber criminals are on the prowl to pounce on their targets as never before as the Covid-19 pandemic gives them a golden opportunity to go full throttle in their nefarious designs. And as they do so, the Sharjah Police are leaving no stone unturned to catch the fraudsters. Cyber patrols have been stepped up to combat their vicious activities and eliminate all e-crimes and abuse. A top official at the Sharjah Police said the cyber criminals mostly target low-income workers and families. The most rampant cases are the fake prize scams, in which the fraudsters send text messages or call their targets telling them that they have won a huge cash award. They then prod the victims to share their bank details so the 'prize money' can be transferred to their accounts. After getting the confidential information, the scamsters withdraw the funds.
