Some 221 Filipinos in Dubai, many of whom lost their jobs to Covid-19, were flown home on Thursday as the Philippine Consulate-General in the emirate continued its repatriation programme.
The passengers, who travelled on Philippine Airlines flight PR 0659, arrived in Manila this morning, the mission said. Plane tickets were sponsored by the Philippine government.
"Also among the passengers were overseas Filipinos availing of the ongoing immigration amnesty of the UAE government for those who have overstayed in the country," the consulate said in a statement. There were also several children, including two infants, on board.
Since the pandemic struck, the Philippine Consulate-General in Dubai has so far flown home 2,233 Filipinos.
