Coronavirus: Abu Dhabi issues safety guide for spas, desert camps

Abu Dhabi - At hotels’ spas, precautionary measures should be clearly displayed for arriving guests.

Abu Dhabi’s tourism authority on Friday issued precautionary guidelines for spas at five-star hotels and desert camps.
All staff at these facilities must be tested for Covid-19 prior to reopening and once every two weeks afterwards, the Department of Culture and Tourism (DCT) Abu Dhabi stated in two new sets of safety rules.
Any person with flu-like symptoms must not be allowed entry, and the case should be reported to the Estijaba service at the Department of Health. Guests showing a temperature of 37.3 degrees Celsius or higher must be escorted to isolation rooms and medical checks should be carried out, the authority added.
Thermal cameras must be installed or handheld infrared thermometers provided. At hotels’ spas, precautionary measures should be clearly displayed for arriving guests.
Spas and desert desert camps in the Capital have been temporarily closed since March as part of measures to fight the spread of the virus.
Must-wear PPE at spas
All guests and staff members must wear face masks at all times, however, spa employees must also have face shields and gloves while performing treatments, according to DCT Abu Dhabi’s guidelines.
Therapists must follow a strict hand washing regime before and after each treatment, and bedding and towels must be changed after each use.
Changing rooms, lockers and shower facilities can be opened, provided that cleaning and disinfection is done after every use and social distancing is maintained, the authority said.
In arranging appointments, spas should ensure enough time is allotted for sterilisation after each service, it added. Only those with receiving treatments shall be allowed entry.
Disinfection must for all desert equipment
At desert camps, all staff must undergo temperature checks at the start of their shift, and periodically throughout the their work hours.
Thorough cleaning and disinfection must be done at the campsite, from the equipment, vehicles, bikes and buggies to all public areas.
Common surfaces, especially those that are frequently touched, must be sanitised regularly, using products and methods recommended by the health authority.
Sand skiing and sand boarding equipment, horse and camel saddles, horse riding reins and falcon holders must be cleaned and disinfected after every use.
Hand washing facilities must be ensured for all staff members, contractors and visitors, and hand sanitisers must be placed at accessible locations.
Smart payment machines must be sanitised before and after use. Signs in different languages must be placed, reminding and urging visitors to respect physical distancing norms.
