Indian missions in the UAE will hold only virtual celebrations to mark the Independence day on August 15 in light of Covid-19 restrictions, the Indian ambassador has said.
Flag hoisting and other ceremonies will be live broadcasted on social media platforms and Indian citizens are encouraged to participate virtually, said the envoy.
"We have to adapt to the times. Though the situation has improved, government regulations are still in place. So, we have decided not to be celebrating in the normal manner where all community members come to the embassy and the consulate for celebrations," said Pavan Kapoor.
"We will have a small event restricted to the people of the embassy, and we will be broadcasting it on social media platforms so that people get a sense of participation," he added.
Kapoor said the embassy is also organising a virtual contest where residents can post patriotic songs, dance performances and paintings on the embassy's social media channels.
