Look at the latest Covid-19 numbers. The UAE government is doing its bit to mass-test its residents, reduce mortality and increase the recovery rate. Now look at the numbers again. The cases are rising. So are we, as residents, doing our bit?
The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday reported 883 cases of Covid-19, along with 416 recoveries. Two deaths were also reported. The last time 883 cases were reported in the country was on May 27, 2020. Today's infections are the fourth highest recorded in the UAE. More than 85,000 new Covid-19 tests had been carried out in 24 hours, the ministry added, taking the total to over 7.79 million till date.
In special Covid briefings held on a weekly basis, Dr Omar Al Hammadi, official spokesperson for the UAE Government, has repeatedly stressed the need to avoid gatherings and urged the public to follow safety measures such as wearing masks when stepping out of their homes and maintaining a distance of not less than two metres in public.
Dr Al Hammadi on Tuesday stated that everyone should assume responsibilities and adhere to the precautionary measures to support the efforts of frontliners and ease the pressures they are experiencing. He also warned about the risk of negligence, which could lead to serious consequences for everyone.
