As many as 139 establishments were shut down by Ajman Municipality for not adhering to anti-Covid-19 measures during the lockdown.
The crackdown was launched during four inspection campaigns in which inspectors carried out 6,348 visits to various units.
A total of 225 establishments were issued with hefty fines.
Khalid Al Hosany, director of the health and environment department at Ajman Municipality, pointed out that the civic body has directed all its cadres to monitor operations of all establishments to safeguard the health and safety of the people.  
He added that the campaigns were carried out in cooperation with the department of economic development.
The inspection teams work round the clock to respond to reports, complaints, and violations of prescribed rules to prevent Covid-19 spread, he underlined.
Al Hosany stressed the public health department's key role as the first line of the defence against the pandemic.
The department issued 42 circulars and decisions related to Covid-19 aimed at safeguarding public health.
