The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Saturday reported 283 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, along with 98 recoveries. Two deaths were also reported.
More than 77,640 new Covid-19 tests were carried out in the country, the ministry added.

Authorities have said that the world's first Phase III trials of an inactivated vaccine for Covid-19 in the UAE have reached the 15,000-volunteers target in less than a month with individuals from 107 nationalities participating in the programme. The trials successfully screened and vaccinated volunteers with the first of two vaccine shots they are given during the process.
Volunteers will be offered a wrist-based wearable that will track their fitness and health. It will help them self-monitor their daily heart and respiratory rate, sleep performance, recovery levels and measure other key biometrics during the trials. The use of wearable technology to measure key biometrics is reportedly being done for the first time in Phase III clinical trials for Covid-19 vaccine. The initiative ensures that volunteers who now join clinical trials at Adnec in Abu Dhabi and Al Qarain Centre in Sharjah, including those coming in for the second dose, can further enhance their volunteer journey by using the new wearable devices.

A senior health official has also said that the volunteers need not worry about taking a test to enter Abu Dhabi for three months,  Any person is tested for Covid-19 prior to becoming a volunteer and taking the first shot of the vaccine. The swab test is again done after 21 days, when the volunteer gets the second dose of vaccine. The Covid-19 test is repeated after 14 days of the second dose (Day 35). The volunteer can just show the 'Vaccination Volunteer' tag in the Al Hosn app and enter Abu Dhabi any time of the day.

Health authorities follow up on each volunteer through teleconsultations to ensure the person's well-being and also that they are Covid-19 negative. In the three-month period, a volunteer needn't take any additional PCR test unless they develop any respiratory symptoms. People who are interested in volunteering can still register through the portal www.4humanity.ae.

Meanwhile, the Abu Dhabi Police launched an isolation capsule designed to transport Covid-19 patients and those suffering from infectious diseases by air ambulance. The region's first-of-its-kind medical insolation system will help contain the spread of the virus and other diseases. A  specialist in aviation medicine with the Abu Dhabi Police, added that the system will serve a greater purpose in the future than just the ongoing pandemic.
