The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention on Wednesday announced 883 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus, as well as 389 recoveries and 2 deaths.
MoHAP also confirmed two deaths today, in a press conference today.
The new cases were detected after 27,000 more tests.
Total infections as on May 27 stands at 31,969, while recoveries are 16,371. The death toll rises to 255.
Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, official spokesperson of the UAE Government, said that gatherings were responsible for many news cases in the recent past. It is important to continue to avoid gatherings as each individual is responsible for their own safety and that of their families. Also, some violations were committed by some labour groups.
The ministry urged the public to cooperate with health authorities and comply with all precautionary measures, particularly social distancing, to ensure their safety and protection.
"UAE's health system is efficient and capable of increasing and expanding Covid-19 tests across the country. We have opened 24 drive-through testing centers in addition to home testing facilities, well-equipped field hospitals and thousands of volunteers ready to support."
The UAE is taking bold, yet well-thought-out steps to ease back to normalcy from today as Dubai reopens businesses, including cinemas, gyms and some education institutes.
"As we gradually return to normalcy, each emirate's competent authorities and committees will assess the situation and announce changes to the schedule of the national sterilisation programme," Dr Shamsi added.
"The Covid-19 risk remains - opening of business sectors does not in any way mean that the risk has been abated," the official cautioned.
"Following comprehensive assessment of Covid-19 situation, the UAE government decided to resume business activities, which is an important step for the national economy, but we will continue to strictly abide by precautionary measures and follow health practices and guidelines."
On Tuesday, Sharjah announced the reopening of major tourist sites while Dubai reopened commercial activities today with Covid-19 safety measures for all sectors.
Businesses across the country can resume operations provided they adhere to strict Covid-19 precautionary measures, including social distancing, reduced capacity and mandatory use of face masks by staff and customers.
In Dubai, most businesses are now open, with restrictions including no entry for children below 12 and senior citizens above 60 or those with chronic diseases.
A strict sanitisation protocol carried out with municipality-approved material is a prerequisite for operations. The 30-per cent cap on staff strength at offices has been increased to 50 per cent.
