Two Filipina women have evaded quarantine and caught a flight to Japan.
According to Rappler, the sisters were being tested for the coronavirus when they escaped their quarantine facility in Sarangani, Philippines, to board a flight to Japan via Manila.
The Police Regional office confirmed that they had initially quarantined the duo to the Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City after tracking them down to a local hotel.
The two were in quarantine in a government facility in Sarangani but escaped on Thursday, Lieutenant Colonel Rainer Diaz said in a memo that got leaked to the media.
Diaz said in the memo that the two planned to enter Davao City to get on a morning flight to Manila on Friday, flying to Japan once they were there.
Diaz had ordered checkpoints and inspection of boundaries, saying that once the siblings were found, they should be taken into custody and brought to a containment facility in coordination with health officials.
