Covid-19: Eight pharmacies shut in Sharjah for hiking price of masks, sanitisers

Sharjah - The inspections were conducted after receiving complaints from customers.

Eight pharmacies were shut down in the emirate after they were found hiking the price of face masks, sanitisers and gloves.

The Sharjah Economic Development Department (SEDD), represented by the Commercial Control and Protection Department, conducted inspections at 28 pharmacies in the emirate, said officials, adding that four of them were issued fines and nine others were given notices.
The inspections were conducted after receiving complaints from customers that they were selling sanitisers and face masks at an increased price.

The SEDD confirmed that it is taking all necessary measures to prevent the merchants from exploiting their customers during the current circumstances, noting that officials are continuously monitoring the situation.  

The department has been conducting inspection campaigns across the emirate, targeting various commercial activities, officials said. "This resulted in registering many violations, ranging from ignoring the regulations set by the department, increasing prices and others.

Moreover, the SEDD urged the public to communicate with the department to report any violations, through its call centre 80080000, its social media channel Sharjaheconomic, or by visiting the consumer protection section of the website www.shjconsumer.ae.
