The UAE residents have been urged to shop responsibly and stop hoarding as supermarkets across the country have "adequate stock" of essentials.
The Dubai Economy assured residents about the availability of essential hygiene items like face masks, gloves and sanitisers. The regulatory body said there was no need for residents to panic buy.
Citing an example, the authority said retail giant Lulu Group, which has more than 75 branches across the UAE, including 17 in Dubai, has confirmed it sources an average of 1.6 million face masks daily. The group also has adequate stock of such items at its stores and warehouses.
Mohammed Ali Rashed Lootah, CEO of the Commercial Compliance & Consumer Protection (CCCP) sector at the Dubai Economy, said: "Retailers in Dubai, especially those supplying basic needs of people, have risen to the occasion and ensured that residents do not face any shortage during this critical time. The Dubai Economy calls on all commercial outlets to continue to cooperate with the authorities and reaffirm their commitment to consumer rights as well as public health and safety, which has played a major role in establishing Dubai a competitive business hub and a preferred place to live."
The official expressed appreciation about Lulu Group's "keenness to support the precautionary measures" being adopted by the UAE authorities against the Covid-19 pandemic. "The prompt action by the group to provide adequate supplies of hygiene essentials will enhance confidence among the public and help them comply with the prevention guidelines against the pandemic."
V. Nandakumar, Chief Communications Officer of Lulu Group, said hygiene essentials are being made available at the "most affordable prices" across outlets. "A box of 18 masks costs Dh29 while the price of a set of 100 gloves starts at Dh26."
