Coronavirus: E-learning trial starts today; some schools shorten hours

Abu Dhabi - The three-day trial run of the distance learning project will be implemented in phases.

Starting today until Thursday, a new e-learning programme will be tested in a number of public schools in the country, and some will have shortened classroom hours, the Ministry of Education has announced.
Launched as part of precautionary measures against Covid-19, the three-day trial run of the distance learning project will be implemented in phases.
Under the first two phases from today until tomorrow, a few Emirati campuses will hold classes only from 8am to 11.45am. Students of these schools will have to take online maths and Arabic lessons from 4pm to 6pm today. Then on Wednesday, they will be taught English and maths in virtual classes.
Pupils in secondary schools, where the trial will be run, don't have to come to class on Thursday. Instead, they will have a five-hour distance learning session in the morning, covering maths, English, Arabic, physics, chemistry, and others.
Parents have been asked to provide a conducive learning environment for the students at home.
"They should also ensure that their kids would complete all lessons," the ministry said in a circular.
