Coronavirus Live: 7,229 Covid-compliant schools buses to transport 265,000 students in new academic year

Dubai - During the tournament, the group will be conducting more than 20,000 Covid-19 tests.

Emirates Transport concluded its preparations to transport nearly 265,000 students enrolled in public and private national schools for the 2020-2021 academic year, by deploying 7,229 school buses equipped with the latest safety equipment.
Mohammed Abdullah Al Jarman, General Manager of Emirates Transport, highlighted the company's keenness to offer safe, regular and sustainable school transportation according to the highest standards, in line with the precautionary and preventive measures adopted by relevant authorities and its strategic partners from around the country aimed at protecting children, their parents and workers from the coronavirus, Covid-19, pandemic.
He added that the company has prepared buses to transport students to and from 700 public and private schools, noting that it employs 7,059 drivers and 6,218 supervisors to carry out daily school transportation tasks, who have attended regular training programmes organised by the company.
The training programmes were drafted according to accurate plans, and Emirates Transport is keen to develop new training material, under the framework of its comprehensive plan to ensure the safety of students, he said.
The training covers various areas, such as civil defence, first aid, driving, dealing with students and parents, and how to evacuate buses during emergencies, he explained.
The company is committed to ensuring the safety of its school bus fleet, in line with local laws and international practices, by utilising the latest technologies, such as smart tracking systems that use satellites, and a comprehensive CCTV monitoring system to track movements and locations, Al Jarman said in conclusion.
 
IPL 2020: UAE's VPS Healthcare becomes official Covid-19 testing partner
The UAE-based VPS Healthcare will be the official Covid-19 testing partner for the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL).
The healthcare group will test all the players of eight franchises until their departure from the UAE at the end of the tournament.
The 13th edition of the world's richest cricket league will be played from September 19 to November 10.
The Covid-19 testing process has already started. During the tournament, the group will be conducting more than 20,000 Covid-19 tests.
 
Russian Covid-19 vaccine deal signed
Kazakhstan has signed a deal to get supplies of Russia's first potential Covid-19 vaccine once clinical trials are complete, the Central Asian nation's government said on Wednesday.
The government did not say how many doses of the vaccine it planned to buy and at what price.
It said the vaccine would be made available to at-risk Kazakh citizens free of charge.

A Covid-19 afflicted woman who had been placed on ventilator at India's Apollo Hospital has delivered a healthy baby.
A team of doctors accomplished a near miracle by saving the mother and child, despite the patient's highly critical health condition.
The mother contracted Covid while she was in the seventh month of pregnancy and had to be put on ventilator.
A pre-term delivery was performed despite the mother's condition and both were discharged in a healthy condition.
 
Bahrain reports 357 new Covid-19 cases
The Bahrain health ministry has reported 357 new cases of the Covid-19 coronavirus on Tuesday, along with 362 recoveries. The death toll increased to 186 with one new death.
