A family court on Monday declared that actress Irtiza Rubab, popularly known among her fans as Meera, was married and she was wife of Attique-ur-Rehman.
However, the court canceled Meera's Nikkah on the basis of Khula.
Family Court Judge Babar Nadeem passed these orders while dismissing a jactitation of marriage suit, filed by actress Irtiza Rubab, after declaring that it was based on a lie. In its 18-page detailed verdict, the court ruled out that Nikkah Nama (legal marriage contract) of Meera and Attique was authentic.
The court also stated that all the pictures and other evidence provided to the court were valid and the two were legally married. However, the court observed that it appeared during the recording of statements of witnesses that the dispute started between parties over a house located in Defence.
The court held that both parties had filed various cases against each other and those were pending with different courts despite passage of 10 years. The court further observed that keeping the litigation in mind, it is believed that the couple could not continue their life as husband and wife.
Therefore, it would be better that the petitioner-lady should be freed from the wedlock, it added.
The court, dismissing the jactitation of marriage suit, also canceled Nikkah on the basis of Khula.
In July 25, 2009, the film actress had filed the lawsuit seeking orders to restrain her "self-proclaimed" husband from calling her his wife. Both the parties made complete efforts to establish a case against each other through different applications. However, most of the pleas were filed by Attique-ur-Rehman.
