In its 23-year history, non-profit community based UAE football club Dubai Irish FC has never managed to truly hit the headlines...until today. Believe it or not, Dubai-based businessman Dennis McGettigan has launched a somewhat ambitious bid to bring midfield wizard, the Atomic Flea himself, Lionel Messi to the UAE.
McGettigan, who owns and runs his eponymous food and drink brand, is also the sponsor of Dubai Irish FC.
He contacted Barcelona after Messi handed in a transfer request - and the club has confirmed they have received the inquiry.

McGettigan said: "It's true that I have been in touch with Barcelona to confirm our interest in bringing the best player in the world to the UAE. It will be more than just playing football for Dubai Irish - I can see him bringing so much to the business as I know he is interested in food and drink and loves to have a good time as well."
"We could have him coaching kids in the morning, playing for the team in the evening and then hosting Champions League nights in McGettigan's to finish off a busy day."
"The salary package is obviously a challenge but we will do what we can and also top it up with a great villa looking out to sea, some desert adventure deals and as many chicken wings and roast dinners as he can handle."
Barcelona confirmed they received the inquiry but did not wish to comment further.
McGettigan added: "People will think this impossible but the world, as we know, can be a crazy place and Dubai Irish has a team for over 35s - so once Messi gets to that age he can take it a little easier with the older guys."
