Hollywood actor Lindsay Lohan's UAE residence status has always been a tad unclear. It is often simply assumed she calls our shores home given the number of social media posts and event sightings, though a vague 'close source' can often be found giving quotes to various tabloids as to the Mean Girls star's permanent address. Locations have recently included a Greek island and Turkey. However, the 33-year-old has this week put all speculation to rest by declaring she has lived in Dubai for six years having first fallen in love with the city during the 2008 star-studded Atlantis Hotel The Palm opening which she attended as a guest of honour.
Speaking from the UAE via Internet video link on US comedian David Spade's stripped back homemade version of his late night talk show, Lights Out With David Spade, Lohan confirmed her tenure before narrowing down for the oblivious host where Dubai could actually be found on the map.
"It's in the Middle East," Lohan stated with a laugh. "It's a city built on desert."
Facing the camera in a plain white top, side lit by the natural glow streaming in from a high-rise glass window, Lohan elaborated she was in the "Wall Street of Dubai - Downtown" and had been riding out quarantine in relative comfort, slumped on the pillows in the video chat's background watching Apple TV.
"I live here...but I go to New York a lot, like I go and see my family," Lohan continued before elaborating on her latest projects - the Australian version of The Masked Singer television talent show and bringing out a new track, Back To Me, and album with Casablanca Records: much of which, she mentioned, was recorded in Dubai.
"Next I'm doing a movie called Cursed with Mickey Rourke," said Lohan after also expressing hopes for a second Mean Girls outing. "That'll be fun for me. I play a police officer, a detective."
The conversation quickly returned to the pressing issue of the day: COVID-19 and its effect on the performer's life.
"It's very strict here (UAE), you are not really allowed outside, they take it very seriously," Lohan explained about the National Sterilisation Programme before going into the scheme's more technical details. "There are drones that clean at night and are decontaminating everything."
This more stringent approach and attitude appeared to please the artist in comparison to what she witnesses others elsewhere in the world posting on their social media.
"I've actually gotten pretty offended by some people that I've seen. I'll see a photo someone sends me and people are just chilling. They'll think 'oh it's really nice out today in New York, I'm just going to go chill by the water and in the park around other people and not wear a mask or gloves.'
"It's better to be scared of going out just so you take it more seriously."
