What's on at the cinema? The Owners

The Owners. Your classic switch-a-roo, a group of teenagers including Game Of Thrones’ Maisie Williams believe they have happened across an easy score when they discover an empty country pile loaded with fine pickings. Easily breaking in, they are in the midst of swiping most of the loot when the huddle discover a large safe built into the basement wall. Throwing everything except the kitchen sink at the steel door to no avail, the house’s owners surprisingly return catching the group in the act. Initially the youths overpower the elderly duo, torturing them for the strongbox’s code. When the husband and wife refuse to give up the digits and somehow scamper upstairs to retrieve a gun, the tables are turned. All at once it is the gang who are desperate to run away, but can’t. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 65%

Raya & The Last Dragon. It’s a tale as old as time: 500 years ago monsters roamed the land of Kumandra causing untold suffering. At the time, a colony of dragons came to the rescue and chased them off. Now, half a millennium later, the beasts have begun to return though there are no longer dragons around to save the day. Noble warrior Raya (Kelly Marie Tran) must embark on a quest to find the last one fabled to live in a far-away realm. Unfortunately she is not the only Ronin seeking the flying reptile and its mythical power. Rotten Tomatoes gives it 96%

Behind You. Not much to say about this one other than it’s the most classic of all classic horror stories. Two young sisters must go to stay with their estranged aunt in a house that would make the Addams Family mansion look quaint. Immediately they notice all the mirrors are either covered or facing the wrong way. Warned never to look into them, curiosity gets the better of the duo and they lift the dust sheet off a mirror. What do you know, a demon is released. Typical. IMDb gives it 4.2

Safer At Home. An interesting concept wrapped in a highly unappealing premise, the year is 2022 and the pandemic has only become worse with deadlier strains and a higher mortality rate. People have endured 492 days of quarantine. A group of friends meet on a Zoom chat determined to carry out their regular Vegas trip virtually. The organiser has mailed each participant a package to make sure the evening goes with a bang. When they all take the provided narcotics, the night begins to unravel. Oh, a killer may also be on the loose. IMDb gives it 3.4
