Kanika in Abu Dhabi
Yas Island will transform this weekend for the biggest celebration of the festival of lights: the Yas Mega Mela until November 2 at the du Arena. Join the three-day event featuring Bollywood music sensations Kanika Kapoor tonight followed by Ankit Tiwari on Friday. We spoke to Kanika to find out more.
What do you have planned for the Yas Mega Mela?
My team and I have been planning a new set, with a mashup of songs from the '80s, '90s and the 2000s. I am thrilled to see the confluence of Middle East and the Indian culture. The city's hospitable nature makes me feel at home.
What is your best performance memory?
In Durban, South Africa. It was a big concert and there was a moment where I became emotional and so did the 7,000 people. All the torches were up and it was quite a beautiful moment where I connected with everybody in that room.
With whom would you most like to collaborate and why?
It is a dream to collaborate with Adele or Taylor Swift but given a choice, I would have loved to collaborate with Manna Dey or even Abida Parveen as I have grown up listening to their songs.
If you were throwing a celebrity dinner party, who would you invite and why?
It would have Girija Devi, Shubha Mudgal, Amitabh Bachchan and Javed Akhtar. They have seen life. Their souls are very pure and the conversation would be unbelievable.
