WE'RE APPROACHING THE weekend, which always dictates a treat is in order. What could be more satisfying than tying off your last few work days with a massive burger? They provide the perfect meal. Big, bold and sometimes bonkers, there is a sandwich to suit every occasion and taste across the country. Here we've picked out some of our favourites.

THE CRAZY GANG
What can we say about Black Tap at the Rixos Premium in JBR, which hasn't been uttered before? This place knows how to put beef (and often a truck-load of other ingredients) between two buns. Just look at the picture. If you can wash one of these down with a trademarked crazy shake, you have our unwavering respect.

THE NEW ONE
A new player has entered the game with the recent launch of Ugly Burger. The brainchild of three Dubai-based culinary entrepreneurs: Eric Lee, Young Rak Jung and Chang Sup Shin, Ugly Burger is inspired by the Far East with menu items including juicy Wagyu beef, shrimp katsu, crispy fried chicken burgers, spicy chicken nuggets and shrimp balls. Order now on Chatfood, the online delivery platform with a mission to support local businesses, or dine in at Shogun Dubai Media City.

THE GREEK TREAT
Go! Greek has released new dishes to make this summer 'Greece-lightning'. Out now, there are two new gyros and a Greek burger in which to sink your teeth. The Greek beef burger is topped with a feta crumbled tzatziki dip, tomatoes, onions and a crunch of cucumber all in a soft potato bun. Served with, of course, a side of Greek fries. Opa!

THE ARABIC TWIST
There are three Malak Al Tawouk outlets across Dubai and the chain has just added a selection of kabab and Francisco sandwiches to its menu. Simple tasty food; there's not much to add here apart from, you're going to enjoy yourself!

THE DINING DEAL
It's an incongruous Irish sports joint in the middle of Barsha, though when a place serves up decent food, people will always come flooding through the door. O'Leary's at the TIME Topaz Hotel Apartments purveys hearty fare including quesadillas, buffalo wings and ribs, but we think their burgers are mighty fine. Right now you can have a full business lunch meal during weekdays for Dh37. david@khaleejtimes.com
