Love Aaj Kal tries to depict how love-struck couples chased their love interests in the past and how romance has changed in present times given the fast-paced life people lead. It also delves into how the meaning of love itself has changed.
Kartik Aaryan and Sara Ali Khan's Love Aaj Kal is no different than Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone's movie of the same title. However, some bits have been altered in the new version.
The new movie has a strange beginning and it shows Aarushi Sharma and Sara being followed by Kartik in two different situations, signifying that the ladies liked being pursued. But the scene is confusion, it misleads the audience right at the start, giving an idea of how incomprehensible the whole film is going to be.
Love Aaj Kal is narrated by Randeep Hooda, who talks about his hey-days and what being in love was then. He is shown as narrating the story to Sara (Zoe) who is in a 'relationship' with Veer (Kartik).
After this everything seems to be left to the audience to understand and guess the gist of Love Aaj Kal!
Summarising director Imitiaz Ali's idea behind Love Aaj Kal, it seems that he wanted to tell a story about a person caught in his own shackles and who can be unstoppable if he unleashes his inner charisma.
Screenplay
The screenplay is very bad and confusing.
Dialogue
Well, it seems there were no dialogues written for the movie. The lines are so routine that it seems the actors were given a scene and asked to speak dialogues impromptu.
Music
Music is also poor. Except the song picked up from the earlier Love Aaj Kal is good but that too has been pushed to the end of the film.
Acting
Kartik Aryan tries to play someone who does things without any thought and is silly but fails miserably. Sara fails to look pretty and to top it all she fails to deliver in terms of acting too. Same goes for Randeep Hooda. Just that the debutant actress Aarushi Sharma has done a fairly good job.
Location
All locations are good and shot on a big scale.
Editing
The editing is very bad and lengthy. A film which cannot be over two hours has been stretched for 2.5 hours.
Verdict
There is no action, no comedy, no entertainment and no light moments. It is a torture to sit through the film trying to comprehend. Again, the story is far from reality and audience cannot relate to such an illusive movie.
