When you're performing in front of an audience on Zoom, we'd imagine heckling is the last thing you need worry about. But stand-up comedian and YouTube personality Atul Khatri begs to differ.
"Who says there is no heckling on Zoom?," he asks. "Of course, there is heckling on Zoom as well. And the worst part about heckling on Zoom is you don't know where it's coming from! You might have a 100 people on your show but Zoom only gives you 25 screens at a time. So you don't know where it's coming from. I've had heckling on Zoom shows also and it's great fun as long as the person owns up to it then we can have good conversations," Khatri tells us from Mumbai ahead of his show tomorrow night.
With the pandemic dictating a new way of life people have gotten used to late lie ins and working from home in questionable attire at best. So how does one stay motivated while working from home? "One of the things I do to stay motivated is I dress up well and have a fairly professional set up; I've bought a professional mic, headphones and lights. I try to give as much an authentic experience as I can to the audience as I am performing on stage. I think I convince myself that I'm going for a show. To be honest I shave before going on and put perfume just to keep thinking I am going to a proper show. And I think once you are in the zone you really enjoy yourself. I think that's the most important thing," shares the businessman-turned-comedian who's been entertaining the masses with his English stand-up comedy for over a decade.
But what would happen if his funny bone were to mysteriously vanish? "If my funny bone mysteriously vanishes, I think I would open up a comedy club because there is a big dearth of good comedy clubs in India and there is a big scope for a professionally managed one. So I'll take funding from some businessman from Dubai and open up a comedy club in Mumbai! Any businessman wanting to open up a comedy club in Mumbai even now please get in touch with me!"
The adult comedy show presented by Front Row Events will go live with Atul Khatri at 10pm on Thursday. Tickets priced Dhs30 available at BookMyShow.
