hrithikbut then again this talented star kid has an even more talented, blue-eyed director-father –Rakesh Roshan; the man who has the midas touch with destiny. City times spoke to the man who can make your imagination and his profits fly sky high.

It is after a long break that Hrithik is doing a film and again the movie is being directed by you. Will this be another Kaho Na Pyar Hai for Hrithik?

Personally I think it is difficult to predict if history will repeat itself. Hrithik’s career is at a different stage altogether now; what the audience expects of him? In what sort of a role will they receive his performance best? These are questions critics can linger over not an actor or a film maker. As a director and producer, I have put in my best and got my artists to deliver their best performances; now that’s a combination that always works.

With Krrish are you making an attempt to recreate the Superman magic but Bollywood style?

You can never compare two films because of the fact that they are two separate films. Our market is entirely different to the market for Hollywood films. As a director, I would like to believe that I have a unique approach to film making and don’t see a point in being compared to another director from Hollywood or Bollywood. Krrish is a Rakesh Roshan film and it will determine it’s own market, it’s own profits and its own special impact on the audience; in the process Krrish will also raise the standards for Indian cinema. We are not imitating the west we are exploring a certain subject on our own terms.

To what extend would you say has Rakesh Roshan –the father and director- been responsible in grooming Hrithik as an actor?

I have not groomed Hrithik at all. In fact, he has assisted me for 5 years before his debut as an actor; and that gave him an opportunity to observe the art of film making. As an artist he has an insight on what goes on behind the camera and that has to work as a plus for him. He is well aware of his medium and he is dedicated to acting and appreciating good cinema; no one can hold that against him.

The father-son combination has always proved favourable for you and Hrithik. Is this a formula you will stick by?

It is never a formula; if it was that simple then every film would be a hit because to make a successful film is the purpose of every director and producer irrespective of experience, talent and budget. Krrish has taken a lot of thought process; we have looked in to many details and paid the price for in terms of finance, effort and time. The film is a compilation of talent from Hollywood, Bollywood and Chinese Cinema; it is an honest effort and not a formula. Moreover, Hrithik is a talented actor and I a fairly capable director I suppose. (Laughs). So it no surprise that when good talent comes together a film turns out to be a hit.
