VINDICATION BEST GIFT FOR ESTRADA, SAYS SON

Deposed President Joseph Estrada, who turned turning 69 yesterday, may have already received his best birthday gift so far. And this is — according to Estrada's son, San Juan Mayor Jose Victor 'JV' Ejercito — no less than the "gradual vindication" of his detained dad.

"The truth is slowly coming out. My father's vindication is the best birthday gift so far," Ejercito said during an interview over radio station dzEC. The deposed leader, who was ousted in 2001, has figured prominently in recent surveys as the best person to replace President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo if elections were held today.

The older Estrada, is currently in jail for the non-bailable charge of plunder — and may face the death penalty if found guilty. He is testifying in his own defence before the Sandiganbayan anti-graft court.
