Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol may have featured title character Ethan Hunt hanging off the Burj Khalifa and highlighted Dubai as one of its major locations, but it looks like the latest installment in the movie franchise could make a star of our nation's capital.
Tom Cruise, who has played Hunt since the series debuted in 1996, posted on Twitter today: 'Thank you to everyone in Abu Dhabi for the amazing help and cooperation. Our filming here continues to be a wonderful experience."
Given a trailer for MI6 - Fallout recently dropped and the picture is scheduled for a summer release, it is not unfeasible to imagine a few extra scenes in Abu Dhabi being added to the final cut, the principal filming of which, according to director Christopher McQuarrie, has been concluded.
Abu Dhabi's central production house twofour54, however, could not comment on the speculation surrounding Cruise's UAE visit and whether it was Mission:Impossible related.
Over the past two weeks the actor has been spotted around Abu Dhabi and Dubai, popping up in many a social media feed. On February 26, Abu Dhabi resident Wali Khan posted a picture on Twitter of himself and Cruise posing beside a Falcon Aviation helicopter, an event that has been reported not to have been connected with any filming.
UAE media executive Ahmad Al Shaikh also Tweeted a picture sat with Cruise at his Dubai home on February 24 with the post stating: "Tom was the first actor to bring a big motion picture to be filmed in the UAE. We talked about the best ways of making the UAE a hotspot and a magnet for global filmmaking."
