We go behind the scenes to find out what’s in store for Dubai’s fashionistas at this year’s Splash Autumn-Winter 09 Fashion Show

EVERY SEASON, SPLASH handpicks to-die-for pieces from across the globe. At their fashion show, they cover everything from High Fashion to High Street wear with clever, pocket-friendly adaptations of designer pieces. So it ‘s not only an avenue for stylish people to get together from around the region, but an opportunity for the city’s fashionistas to get an exclusive sneak peek into the next season’s collections.

What’s in it for you?

Until now, the Splash Fashion Shows have only been open to the media and VIPs. This season, in an exciting turn of events, Splash has thrown the show open to their customers. The select few who are chosen to attend the Splash AW 09 Fashion Show will be privy to the ultra-glam season preview on August 13 at the Madinat Arena, Madinat Jumeirah.

Ingredients of a great fashion show

We asked Splash CEO, Raza Beig what he thought were some of the essential ingredients to create a successful fashion show. This is what he had to say:

Great Fashion

“Remember the last time you spent days, even weeks picking an outfit for an upcoming party, only to spend more energy observing someone else’s gorgeous outfit when you actually get there? Well, a fashion show is the birthplace of those trends. Fashion shows are the places to spot the biggest trends for the next season – on and off the ramp. Attendees make sure they dress to impress by scouting out a hot trend to model prior to the show.

An important guideline to remember though is to sport a trend that flatters your shape and one that stays comfortable. Half of an outfit’s appeal is in how well you are able to carry it. There is no point walking around in an ill-fitting, uncomfortable dress while all around you people are having a good time!”

Great Venues

“Fashion show coordinators primarily choose a venue based on how well it conveys the theme of the show. Usually, this calls for an immediate booking at the most well-known and quirkiest of locations.

At the Autumn/Winter 2008 Fashion Show, Splash debuted a collection that revolutionised its brand forever – Eye on Design. The occasion was marked at the Godolphin Ballroom, at the Emirates Towers.

The theme at the Splash Spring/Summer 2009 Fashion Show was ‘Cabana Chic’, so they took the party, literally, to the pool-side at the Palace hotel in Downtown Burj Dubai, with the ramp built on top of the swimming pool.

This season, as the fashion show goes larger than life, Splash has chosen to host the event at the Madinat Arena, Madinat Jumeirah.”

Any show is incomplete without a stellar-styling team. Stylists pick out key pieces and match them to create the look for the show. They are also in charge of directing the hair and make-up teams, and accessorising the models as these can dramatically alter the “look”. Along with some excellent show direction - with the right kind of music, lighting, and choreography - a show is bound to be a hit.
