'The World' goes global

DUBAI'S MEGASTRUCTURE 'The World' could be viewed in 250 million homes across the globe when The National Geographic Channel airs a documentary on the ambitious real estate development.

worldSituated just off the coast of Dubai, The World, a cluster of over 300 islands in the shape of the world map, is being created by Measuring approximately 9km wide by 7km long, when complete The World will add an additional 232 kilometres of beachfront to Dubai’s coastline.

The development is already 96 per cent reclaimed with reclamation scheduled for completion in 2008. The World will be a collection of private and resort islands that are being sold by invitation only.

45 per cent of the islands are now sold including Thailand, North Canada, Malaysia and Sumatra and Ireland. The hour-long documentary will be shown in 250 million homes in 34 languages and 166 countries including the USA, Australia, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Spain.

The National Geographic Channel will air a documentary at 9 pm on August 27 on one of the most ambitious real estate developments ever.
