Nowadays she chooses to surround herself with "positive, happy people" and spends more time praying these days.

One of the biggest life lessons she learned is that a person will make mistakes, but when you do, you simply pick yourself up and move on.

"Given a choice, there are probably many things [about my life] that I'd change. Despite that, I'm not a bitter person. I have no reason not to be happy."

What she is most proud of is that she has now learned to make the most of what's been given to her. "I'm happy with what I have. There's no need to add further," she says.

The reason for all this is husband James Yap, whom she married in a secret ceremony held at the home of good friend Boy Abunda.

Kris became a better person because of James. Even friends have noticed the many positive changes in her.

Almost a year after their wedding, Kris and James are very happy. But they too, have their ups and downs like any other couple. "It's not easy; we have to work at it too, just like anyone else," says Kris.

Despite all these differences, there is a reason that this relationship works. And that is because "we pray together. Of all the relationships I've had, this one is anchored on God, and that makes it different. I think that's the secret."
