The next Donita Rose?

COULD SHE be the next Donita Rose? Well, if she isn’t yet, then 20-year-old radio show host Andrea ‘Andi’ Manzano is certainly on her way after being chosen as one of the three winners of the recent MTV VJ Hunt, along with former Wowowee host Kat Alano...

and band member Jonathan ‘Sib’ Sibulo. In case you’re wondering, yes, Andi is the niece of actor, TV host and Optical Media Board (OMB) chair Edu Manzano, and the cousin of his son Luis. Her father is the second cousin of Edu. “But we’ve never met,” says Andi. “The Manzano family is very big, that’s why. But I’ve met Luis, and he seemed really nice.”

Andi is more popularly known as Andi9, the lone female co-host of Mo Twister and Mojo Jojo (who are with her in the photo that appears with this article) on their radio show, Good Times With Mo. It was while she was taking a four-month break from the show that Andi decided to audition for the MTV VJ Hunt.

She was surprised to make it to the finals, but even more surprised — well, maybe shocked is a more apt description of how she felt — when she made it into the final six with Kat, Sib, actress-singer (and former Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate) Roxanne Barcelo, model and actor Brent Javier and newcomer Eri Neeman. There, the final six were given two more challenges: to introduce randomly-picked music videos, and to answer weird questions posed by the evening’s interviewer, comedian Tado.

But tension really started to be felt during the announcement of the winners. The tension level rose even higher after the host announced that instead of the usual two winners, there would be three, because two of the finalists had tied for the top spot. Imagine Andi’s shock when she heard her name as the first one called! Sib’s name followed, then Kat’s.
