The new joint on the block

DESCRIBING ITSELF as serving 'sensual Latino fusion' by invoking classic Latino cuisine with a modern twist, makes the food at the recently opened restaurant Nuevo sound a little more exciting than it really is.

Certainly when you arrive at Nuevo Fusion Latino, located at Level 2, Building 4, in the Dubai International Finance Centre, provided you know your way around the centre and can find it easily, its bright 'vibrant young mood' does impress.

Its style is beautifully expressed with colour and vibrance displayed in contemporary decor. Vases, hang from the ceiling, the occasional one hanging upside down, and semi-transparent beads serve as a colourful screen and backdrop at the entrance.

Possibly one of South America's most popular cultural exports, revolutionary Che Guevara is, of course, present, if at least subtly with the odd picture in the menu.

But still it is a comfortable, relaxed environment to enjoy dinner, if a little quiet during the night, we were the only occupied table on the night, but the manager assured the restaurant was very busy during lunch time, making the most of the office hours trade.

To the food, and garlic, chilli prawns was the standout of the chosen entrees while jalapeno poppers weren't hot but gave a melted cheesy hit. The fusion aspect of the menu is clear with chicken caesar salad and other stalwarts on the menu.

Well prepared and cooked, the meals were similar to the fare of any other middle-of-the-way Mexican restaurant but barely Latino fusion. Fine for a lunch but unfortunately not as exciting as the appealing restaurant with its welcoming, colourful decor, suggests.
