IT IS the chance to connect with people everyday that has made Tamer Hosni’s rapid journey to stardom, since his first album released in 2006, so valuable to him.
The singer, song-writer and actor, with hits including Awsiflak, Inta Hayaty and Hub, was in Dubai yesterday where he was announced as the new Middle East brand ambassador for Coca-Cola.
Despite already dedicating himself to several passions, Hosni said he saw working with Coca-Cola as an opportunity to build his image and the brand further.
Hosni was in Dubai for two weeks, performing to a sold-out crowd on January 25 as part of Dubai Shopping Festival.
But with success also comes attention, with the eagle eye of the media posing the biggest challenge to him, Hosni revealed to City Times.
“The biggest challenge was first to break through the clutter of singers in the market,” Hosni said through a translator.
“Now it’s the warfare between the papers to put out untrue stories about me.”
In 2005, Hosni was sentenced to three years in jail and a fined for forgery and for avoiding conscription, which attracted significant media coverage. He was released from jail on September 16, 2006.
Most recently rumours have surfaced that Hosni has got married in Syria. However he assured the Press that the rumours were just that.
“The biggest hurt was when people said my success was created by others and not based on my singing and song writing talent,” Hosni said.
“My mother’s happiness (that her son is a star) and connecting with everyday people on a human basis,” he said, were some of the things that helped to keep him grounded through the bad times.
“It’s important to stay humble and respect the success people have given me,” Tamer explained.
In his new role as brand ambassador Tamer hopes to help various causes — but first and foremost in his home country Egypt.
Upcoming tours and concerts in Egypt would raise funds for hospitals and children in need, he explained.
Brand Ambassador
Tamer Hosni joins the likes of Lebanese superstar Nancy Ajram in becoming a brand ambassador for Coca-Cola.
“In his extensive emotional range of music, his love for life and his dedication to spreading the message through music, we found the perfect fit in Egypt’s most popular superstar,” Coca-Cola Middle East Business Unit President Rafik El Toukhi said.
“In a nutshell, the man with the most enchanting voice was a choice that makes perfect sense for Coca-Cola, both strategically and as a representation of what Tamer encompasses as an artist.”
