Talking the tech

SHAH RUKH Khan is one star known for rendering unparallel leadership to any product he endorses. As ambassador of a giant computer brand, he seems to have taken the onus of bringing technology to our doorsteps quite seriously.

talkIn a typical unveiling ceremony for the revitalized product held recently at Taj Lands End, we were in for a double treat with a SRK double play-one commented on the large screen, "I am glad to be associated with Compaq-The vision of 'kal tumhara hai', to empower you to make your dreams come true." The minute the screen was switched off, the real SRK on stage remarked, "Today a PC is a must, for every house, every child, in fact for everyone; anyone who has a dream and the determination to achieve it. Compaq has always capacitated you to fulfill your dreams and the new range makes it possible for your dreams to come true."

When quizzed why he chose to endorse the brand, the quick-witted Khan replied, "They are built for lasting performance and are very user friendly. With the new sleek appeal and product features, I am sure we are further going to build upon our achievements." You have been endorsing many products, are there going to be many more? "I am privileged to be associated with so many brands. They find me suitable and I endorse only those which I feel will make my fellow Indians and me happier."

So how tech savvy is SRK actually? "By now I am totally into it. I carry my PC everywhere. Acting wise it helps me to inspect my performance closely and immediately so that I know my drawbacks. I also make my notes on it; it helps me deliver my dialogues comfortably. The scripts that I get, I generally read them on it. Then at times when I really feel kiddish, I play games. Not forgetting, I write a lot these days."

Writing as in writing a script that would be produced into a film? "Inshah Allah! How I wish I was that gifted! If I write one for a movie I would really pray that except me others watch it as well."(Laughs) Due to lack of opportunities brain drain in India continues. What has the 'Swadesh' star to say on that? "Years back people used to look forward to migrate abroad for a better life. But the scenario is gradually changing. Now the youth are seeking better opportunities within the country itself. Who would want to leave his own land, his roots, if a good lifestyle is up for a grab here itself!"

Being in the film industry, you have always supported technical growth. Like the first time you got the Jimmy Jeep Cameras into the country. "Yes it's my industry, my country and if I can do a little something for it, which can make a difference I would do it. I know that we have been steadily progressing since our Independence. We have the resources, the man power and we have made it to the top already. As far as the Indian Film Industry is concerned, we know that it has made itself evident globally and there is no looking back." Coming back to computers; will you allow your kids to fiddle with the new one gifted to you? King Khan reveals, "I got my first ever PC for my kids. They were the ones responsible for inculcating the importance of computers in me. For them it was easy and fun to learn through computers. So there is no saying 'no' to them."
