Strings, Overload and Shafqat Amanat Ali play Dubai

MOST MUSIC BUFFS would enjoy a jam session between popular Pakistani band Strings, rock group Overload and Sufi-fusion singer Shafqat Amanat Ali at this weekend’s Umeed concert. So, obviously, that’s the first enquiry we make when we catch up with them over the phone.

“We know the crowd would thoroughly like us to do one of those. And when three bands come together, it’s always nice to see them perform a blend of their music. But sometimes because of time constraints we aren’t able to do that. Although we’re hoping to manage a jam session at Umeed,” noted Faisal, vocalist for the two-member Strings.

The singer also commented that the Dubai audience makes for a rather appealing mix of Indians and Pakistanis.

“The crowd there has a unique energy. And because the residents visit their home countries so often, they are very much in touch with the current music scene in both countries. We’ll be releasing a new song on April 4 – it’s a patriotic, optimistic number – and we might be giving Dubai a sneak preview of it at the concert.”

Meanwhile, Shafqat Amanat Ali (pictured right), who recently hit the city for a performance with Asha Bhosle, said, “I’m excited to come there because it’s for a good cause. Also, last time we sang to nearly three generations in the audience. This time we’re hoping for the same response and will be performing originals, a couple of covers and a few Bollywood songs.”
