"Let's have a barbie on the beach." Is there a more calm inducing sentence in the English language? Apart from, 'do you want another cup of tea to go with that slice of cake?' no there isn't.
In the UAE heading down for a sunset cookout is one of the pleasures we can take advantage of most the year. Often dressed in swimming costumes, though, what happens when you want to class it up a bit? What do you do when you crave a shed load of grilled seafood and meat, but actually fancy some cutlery, a table, even a serviette? You head to the fantastic new brunch at Sea Fu, the Four Seasons Resort, Dubai, that's what!
Having launched earlier this month, every Saturday evening Sea Fu hosts a beachside barbecue right on the hotel's excellent private shoreline. From 6pm till 11pm watch the sun disappear over the horizon and enjoy simple quality foodstuffs brought from the BBQ to your table accompanied by some choice beverages.
The vision of chef Pierre Barusta, the menu reflects an innovative selection of modern seafood dishes, Asian starters and a few bits of meat if you so desire it. For example, begin the meal with two salads - one of them seaweed which is absolutely delicious, the other a sweet and sour cabbage-y concoction. Straight after we managed to fit in a few oysters from the crustacean bar too. Perfection.
Then comes the piece de resistance. It's the reason we're all there. Mussels, cockles, razor clams, prawns and fish all simply charred and brought to your plate. The razor clams were perhaps the winners, given their unusual flavour and relative scarcity in this region. After the fish, a staff member will come round with some sizzling steak for your delectation. Choose as many pieces as you'd like, although by that time you're going to be pretty full. Sides include baked potatoes, corn on the cob and grilled mushrooms, which round everything off wonderfully.
For dessert, some of the creamiest ice cream in Dubai and a fruit platter - again a basic dish, yet utterly delightfully.
While the food is magnificent, it is Sea Fu's atmosphere which really impresses. Whether sat in the high quality restaurant, on the designer deck, or down on the beach, you're going to love it.
