ASHOK SELVAN HAS made a name for himself not only through outright commercial films but through his distinctive style of acting and his association with offbeat yet super-hit box office successes such as Soodhu Kavvum, Pizza II and Thegidi.
He is now playing a full-length comedy role in Savaale Samaali, now playing at theatres in the UAE. Directed by Sathyasiva, the film stars Bindhu Madhavi on the female lead and has delightful music by S Thaman.
Selvan says he chose the movie for its delightful script after having rejected over forty others post Thegidi, adding that it is a clear departure from the sort of characters that have been coming his way.
"I really liked the script and I expect the film to help me reach more people," says Selvan.
The film is about two TV presenters who are desperately trying to raise the TRP rating of their channel. Selvan, for the first time in his career had to do the customary 'foreign local dance' for the movie.
Savaale Samaali too had a fair share of controversies and troubles. It's reported that Bindhu Madhavi had waived part of her remuneration to support the producer. Reportedly the film overshot its budget and the producer was finding it difficult to release it.
However, the pre-release hype of the film has been great with those who had sneak peeks of the film saying it has the potential to be a winner at the box office.
